In a now-viral TikTok video, a wedding ceremony attendee can be seen doing just that, and even further, joyfully dancing and licking her fingers after placing the piece of cake onto a plate. The guest, whose name is Hailey, is seen helping herself to the sweet treat after thinking the couple had simply “forgotten to serve it.” The confection in question ended up being the top tier of the multi-layer wedding dessert, traditionally saved for consumption on the newlyweds’ one-year anniversary, as it is thought to symbolize good luck and prosperity. The rest of the cake had already been served to the crowd before the hasty moment caught on camera took place. Hailey, donning a brightly-colored polka-dot puff dress for the occasion, may have been carefree in the act she presumed was harmless, but was “mortified” after realizing what she had actually done. “My apologies to the bride and groom,” she captioned the video that has since been viewed over 6.4 million times. Explaining the situation, she wrote: “Ignoring the brownie table and confidently cutting myself a slice of HER WEDDING CAKE thinking, ‘Uh-oh. They forgot to serve it to everyone.’” “I know better now. I hate myself!” she added in small text to the bottom of the video. As the video gained traction on the social media platform and widespread attention across the internet, the bride herself chimed in, dropping a comment confirming that she’s not holding anything against the young woman—no matter how unforgivable TikTok users adding their two cents made the situation seem. “…as the bride whose cake this is - SHE IS FORMALLY FORGIVEN AND HAS LEARNED HER LESSON IN WEDDING ETIQUETTE,” the newlywed explained. Many couldn’t believe what Hailey had (inadvertently) done, but it seemed the sheer shock of it all being caught on tape is what took most viewers by surprise the most. “The way someone was even recording this instead of running up and stopping you,” one user observed, while another asked: “Was this your first wedding??” Even still, the simple act enraged others. “This made me angry and it’s not my wedding,” one added, while another suggested the friendship would be irreparable after something like this. “The way we would no longer be on speaking terms,” they admitted. “Unfriended immediately,” another wrote, while a fifth TikToker commented: “Noooo pls because I would never talk to you again.” As humiliating as the entire situation is, at least we know Hailey has already repaired whatever damage caused by apologizing and being forgiven, but one thing is for sure—she knows what not to do at the next wedding!
