“It’s a thing of the past,” Walmart U.S. CEO John Furner shared on the TODAY Show about previously being open. “We’ll be closed again on Thanksgiving. Fortunately, all of our associates will be able to spend time with their loved ones this year.” “Closing our stores on Thanksgiving Day is one way we’re saying ‘thank you’ to our teams for their dedication and hard work this year," Dacona Smith, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Walmart U.S., said in last year’s release. “We hope everyone will take the opportunity to be with their loved ones during what’s always a special time.” Sam’s Club locations will also be closed on Thanksgiving Day, according to the Sam’s Club website. This year, Walmart stores will operate their usual hours on Wednesday, Nov. 24. And on Black Friday, Walmart will open at 5 a.m. local time.
