What happened in the first season of Picard?
(Warning. This section includes Picard season 1 spoilers.) It’s hard to summarize the entire first season of Picard, but we’ll give it a go. (Yeah. This section includes spoilers.) At the beginning of Picard, retired Starfleet Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Stewart) is giving an interview at his home in France. One that he has reluctantly granted. During the interview, Picard reveals that he resigned in protest after Starfleet chose not to proceed with rescue efforts after rogue synthetic beings (known as “synths”) attacked a rescue fleet. Soon after, Starfleet put a ban on synths halting any production, development or research of androids. Stateside, a young woman named Dahj (Isa Briones) is living a quiet life and celebrating with her boyfriend when assassins appear in her home. Dahj’s survival instincts are triggered and she expertly kills the intruders but not before her boyfriend is murdered. Afterward, she has visions of Picard. When she sees his interview, she seeks him out in hopes he’ll have answers. Picard heads to the Starfleet Archives and uncovers a painting Data (Brent Spiner) had given to him years before. The painting titled “Daughter” shows a woman who looks a great deal like Dahj. He meets up with Dahj where they are attacked by more assassins. Dahj fights back with superhuman powers but this time she is not so fortunate and she is killed. It appears Dahj is Data’s daughter and also a synth. Aftewards, Picard meets up with Dr. Jurati (Alison Pill), an expert in the field of synthetics. He learns of a synthetic procedure that results in twins. Picard, along with his friend and employee, Laris (Orla Brady), investigates further and discovers Dahj’s twin sister, Soji (Briones), who is working on a defunct Borg cube. Hoping to get to Soji before assassins get to her, Picard hires Captain Rios (Santiago Cabrera) and his ship, La Sirena, to take them there. Beforehand, he provokes his former first officer Raffi (Michelle Hurd) into joining him. Dr. Jurati begs Picard to tag along. Later, the ship takes a detour so Picard can visit the planet where he helped many Romulan refugees to relocate after Starfleet ceased their rescue operations. There, he asks Elnor (Evan Evagora), a Romulan child he left behind when he resigned from Starfleet, to join him on his quest. An adult now, Elnor is a skilled fighter and was trained in the ways of the Qowat Milat, a sect of warrior nuns who raised him after Picard left. Back on their way to the Borg Reclamation Site, they answer a distress call and beam the ship’s pilot onto the La Sirena. The pilot turns out to be Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan). Meanwhile, on the Borg cube, a Romulan spy named Narek (Harry Treadaway) begins a sort of courtship as he woos Soji for information. He knows Soji is a synth and uses all the intel he’s gathered on her to coerce her into revealing the location of her homeworld in hopes Romulans can go there and eliminate all the synths that live there. Narek and the Romulans and Picard and his ragtag team race to reach Soji’s home planet first. Once there, Picard and his team meet Soji’s “father”, Dr. Altan Soong (Brent Spiner). They discover Soji has many siblings including twins Janna and Sutra (also Briones). Narek and Romulan arrive to destroy the planet but not before Starfleet and William Riker (Jonathan Frakes) show up to fight them. In the end, Starfleet scares the Romulans into retreating and Picard, who has a terminal illness, dies but not before his consciousness is transferred to a synth body.
