While most of us will be gathered around the TV watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade from home and getting ready to share a meal with our loved ones, the co-stars will be busy in the thick of all the action as hosts of the annual special. In a chat with HELLO!, they teased that this year’s special will be bigger than ever. “The Thanksgiving Parade is just iconic and it’s in its 96th year. And it’s just one of those moments - and there are fewer and fewer of them, where everyone stops and does the same thing at the same time,” Guthrie explained. “I think 15 million people tune into the Thanksgiving Parade and it’s a way that we share a morning together. You’re getting your meal ready or waiting to greet your family and it’s on, and for us it’s just a total privilege that’s really so legendary and iconic,” she added. Kotb agreed that the “crowds really make it,” which is why it’s exciting that they will be welcomed back again this year following the COVID-19 pandemic. “Seeing the parade on TV is really the best way to see it as you get every angle but when you’re there in person there’s a certain specialness that you can really only get if you’re there,” Kotb said, adding, “You watch the Broadway shows at Herald Square and you see the crowds… this is some people’s once in a lifetime trip… it’s really fun to see people who have waited for this moment lining the streets.” The annual event will span three hours and take over the streets of New York City. There will be 29 floats along with musicians, clowns, and more, including plenty of star presence from celebrity guests such as Jimmy Fallon, Mario Lopez, and Sean Paul. Lea Michele is set to kick things off alongside the Funny Girl cast, according to The Broadway Exchange. The Glee alum will perform “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” which she was spotted rehearsing alongside the cast on Nov. 21. The Radio City Rockettes will close out the extravaganza.
