When, pray tell, will we get the Pose Season 3 premiere?
Just days after Season 2 debuted, FX picked up the acclaimed series for a third season. “Pose has elevated our culture and the TV landscape like few shows before it, and we are honored to partner with co-creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals on a third season,” John Landgraf, the chairman of FX Networks and FX Productions, said in a statement to Deadline. Although the previous two seasons premiered June 2018 and 2019, respectively, COVID-19 likely threw a wrench into Season 3’s intended airdate. The pandemic forced Pose to halt production in March, but the cast and crew resumed filming in October. The season will premiere May 2 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
Will there be another time jump when Pose Season 3 starts?
Season 1 took place in 1987, with the rise of ballroom culture and Wall Street excess. Season 2 jumped ahead to 1990 and centered on the impact of Madonna’s hit “Vogue” amid the height of the AIDS crisis. According to showrunner Canals, Pose will fast-forward to the mid-90s. “Thematically it’s much of the same—our heroes navigating New York and this time it’s New York of 1994,” Canals revealed to TV Guide.

Poor Candy (Angelica Ross) was murdered in Season 2, but the fan-favorite occasionally popped up in flashbacks and dream sequences. How will COVID-19 affect Pose’s storylines?
Since Season 3 will be set in 1994, Pose won’t explicitly tackle 2020’s social unrest and the coronavirus pandemic, per se, but will “inherently address what’s happening currently,” Canals told Variety, since “the politics of Pose have always been upfront and center.” But COVID-19 protocols have definitely impacted the storytelling. “Things like kissing—we will likely forgo those moments,” Canals explained, adding, “The place on our show where the biggest impact will be felt will be the ball scenes: Those scenes have 125 to 150 background actors. That’s tricky because that’s such an important and critical part of our show and the narrative.”
What happened at the end of Pose Season 2?
The Janet Mock-directed finale, “In My Heels,” time-jumped several months to 1991 and dealt with Blanca’s ongoing struggle with her HIV diagnosis, which had advanced to AIDS in the emotional season-ender. Blanca’s House of Evangelista was also in flux, as newly engaged couple Lil Papi and Angel, and aspiring dancer/choreographer Damon all flew the coop. But Blanca finds renewed purpose as a house mother when she takes in two new kids, Quincy (KJ Aikens) and Chilly (Gia Parr).

With Quincy (Aikens) and Chilly (Parr) returning as series regulars, it’s safe to say that House of Evangelista lives on! But that’s not the only major development in Blanca’s life. “Blanca finds love,” revealed Canals to TV Guide. “A large part of Blanca’s arc for the season is the push and pull of being both a partner and a mom. How do you balance all these multiple roles?” Blanca’s love interest, Christopher, will be played by Jeremy Pope, an Emmy nominee for his work on Murphy’s limited series, Hollywood. Porter, who won a Primetime Emmy for Best Lead Drama Actor as “Pray Tell,” will be making his TV directorial debut on an episode this season. “I’m trying to be the head b— in charge, hunny,” the multi-hyphenate told Variety.
