On June 6, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their baby girl’s arrival along with her full moniker: Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales,” a press release on the Sussexes’ Archewell website explained. Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s daughters have the name “Diana” in common. Two days after the birth of their second child in 2015, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced that they had named their baby girl Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Like Lili, Princess Charlotte’s name is a nod to both her grandmother Princess Diana and great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth. Prince Charles’ granddaughters aren’t the only royal great-grandkids to have seemingly been named after the Queen. Elizabeth is also the middle name of Isla Phillips, who is the daughter of the monarch’s eldest grandchild Peter Phillips, as well as Zara Tindall’s second daughter, Lena Tindall. Zara once again paid tribute to one of her grandparents earlier this year with her son’s middle name. Less than a month before her grandfather Prince Philip’s death, Zara named her son Lucas Philip Tindall after the Duke of Edinburgh. Princess Eugenie also honored the Queen’s husband in February with her first child August Philip Hawke Brooksbank’s name. Next, What We Know About Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Netflix Deal!
