Consumers who were forced to replace either individual keycaps or the whole keyboard may be able to claim part of a $50 million settlement reached after a class-action lawsuit. The settlement class includes “all persons and entities in the United States” who purchased a butterfly-equipped MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro between 2015 and 2019. According to a MacRumors report, the law firm handling the settlement has been emailing class members since mid-December, however, time is winding down for customers who have not been contacted, but desire to take advantage of the reimbursement. If you fit into one of the three main groups of class members below, find out how much you’re eligible to receive. • Anyone that had to replace their keyboard (or got a “topcase replacement”) more than once — This group should get their payment automatically, but should confirm their mailing address for their $395 (max) payment. • Anyone who replaced their whole keyboard and found this didn’t resolve their issues — Up to $125 after submitting a claim. • Anyone who replaced individual keycaps and found this didn’t resolve their issues — Up to $50 for keycaps after submitting a claim. Settlement payments are only available if your repair was carried out by Apple or one of its authorized service providers within four years of purchase, and further, aren’t expected to begin dispersal until a final approval hearing scheduled for March 16, per CNET. Additionally, actual payouts could be less than the above figures, contingent upon the number of class members in each category. To qualify, customers must submit claims via the keyboardsettlement.com website by the March 6, 2023, deadline.
