Prince HarryandDuchess Meghan released the photograph along with an urge to join them in advocating for vaccine equity on their son’s birthday. They wrote, “We have been deeply touched over the past two years to feel the warmth and support for our family in honor of Archie’s birthday,” and went on to say they are “incredibly grateful” for all the donations people make to charity on Archie’s behalf. On his 2nd birthday, they aim to raise funds for vaccine equity, saying that “around 80 percent of the nearly one billion COVID-19 vaccine shots that have been given were administered in wealthier countries,” adding, “We will not be able to truly recover until everyone, everywhere, has equal access to the vaccine. “And with that intention, we are inviting you to contribute whatever you can—if you have the means to do so—to bring vaccines to families in the world’s most vulnerable places.” The Duke and Duchess of Sussex went on to say, “We cannot think of a more resonant way to honor our son’s birthday.” They encourage contributions to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, which “buys COVID-19 vaccines for the world.” Royal reporter Omid Scobie also reports that Meghan and Harry have written an open letter to the CEOs of Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and Novavax urging them to make COVID vaccines available to the world.
