When are the 2022 Grammys?

The 2022 Grammy Awards took place Sunday, April 3, 2022, at 8 p.m. ET and were broadcast live on CBS and available to stream live and on-demand from Paramount+. Originally, the 2022 Grammys were supposed to take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Mon., Jan. 31, 2022, from 8-11:30 p.m. ET, but the ceremony was pushed back due to COVID-19.

Who were the 2022 Grammy winners and nominees?

The most-nominated artist heading into the 2022 Grammy Awards—Jon Batiste, who’s perhaps best known as StephenColbert’s Late Show bandleader—also walked away with the most trophies, racking up five Gramophones including the top award of the night, Album of the Year. Who is hosting the 2022 Grammy Awards?

The Daily Show’s TrevorNoah hosted Music’s Biggest Night for the second year in a row! He opened the 2022 ceremony with a series of quick-fire jokes about the artists in attendance—and even spoke a little South Korean to make fun of himself while talking about K-pop boy band BTS! He also made hilarious reference to the Chris Rock-Will Smith drama from last week’s 2022 Oscars ceremony when he said that at the Grammys, “We’re gonna keep people’s names out of our mouths!”

Who performed at the 2022 Grammys?

As host Noah pointed out at the start of the night, the 2022 ceremony was more like a concert with some awards handed out! Scores of the biggest artists working today took to the stage to show off their sensational talents over the course of the night. The 2022 Grammys kicked off with a high-octane performance from Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak’s Silk Sonic duo. That was followed up by an equally electrifying J Balvin performance alongside Maria Becerra. Olivia Rodrigo delivered an emotional and pitch-perfect performance of the track that made her a star this past year, “drivers license.” Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow brought the house down with an extended version of their smash hit “Industry Baby.” And then Billie Eilish brought the house down all over again with a rocking rendition of her single “Happier Than Ever,” with brother Finneas backing her up on electric guitar—in the rain!—and her wardrobe paying tribute to late Foo Fighters drummer TaylorHawkins. Eventual Album of the year winner Jon Batiste had the crowd in Las Vegas hooting and hollering with his smile-inducing, color-saturated performance of his big single, “Freedom.” And speaking of freedom, John Legend delivered an emotional performance in tandem with Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky, who delivered an impassioned plea on behalf of his people via videotaped message.

Did BTS perform at the 2022 Grammys?

Yes! Even though BTS member Jungkook tested positive for COVID-19 just days before Music’s Biggest Night—and just days after bandmate J-Hope was also diagnosed with COVID-19—the show indeed went on!

How have the rules changed for the 2022 Grammy Awards?

For the 2022 Grammys, the rules will be a little (or a lot, in some cases) different than they’ve been in the past. The biggest changes for the 64th Grammy Awards involve some changes to the nomination and voting process. In prior years, nominees in a number of categories were selected by a committee of 15-30 individuals, rather than the entire membership body. Now, all nominees will be selected by a majority of voting members. Additionally, rather than allowing members to vote in up to 15 genre-specific categories, voters in the 64th Grammy awards will be limited to 10 categories within no more than three fields.  To help voters narrow down their three fields, the 2022 Grammy Awards will also be consolidating the previous six existing craft fields into two: Presentation and Production. The goal of this change is to allow voters to vote according to their expertise, without unduly restricting their choices due to the new voting rules.

How have the awards categories changed for the 2022 Grammy Awards?

In addition to several rules changing for the 64th Grammy Awards, two new categories have also been added. Members will now be able to vote for Best Global Music Performance and Best Música Urbana Album. This brings the total number of Grammy Award categories to 86.

What is the Grammy Awards Inclusion Rider?

New for the 64th Grammy Awards is an official Grammy Awards Inclusion Rider, the result of a partnership with Color of Change. The rider is a contract addendum meant to ensure that all parts of the Grammys, at every stage of production, are equitable and inclusive. This marks the first time a major music awards show production has committed to using an Inclusion Rider as part of its production. “The Grammy Awards Inclusion Rider includes the tool’s four key elements, which are essential to driving improvement in representation and equity,” said civil rights attorney Kalpana Kotagal, Inclusion Rider co-author, and partner at Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll. “A commitment to deepening and diversifying hiring pools, benchmarks and targets for hiring, the collection and analysis of applicant and hiring data, and strict accountability measures.” Of the purpose behind the Inclusion Rider, Rashad Robinson, the president of Color Of Change, said, “With the Inclusion Rider, Color Of Change and the Recording Academy are working to change the rules that have enabled systemic discrimination in the music business for far too long. The Inclusion Rider is a concrete accountability mechanism aimed at breaking through an endless stream of empty commitments. It will ensure that Black people finally gain the authority in the industry that matches their essential contributions to it.” Speaking for the Recording Academy, CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said, “I am proud that the Academy is leading the charge in releasing an Inclusion Rider for the music community that counters systematic bias. We were proud to work with a very diverse crew last year for the Grammy Awards, and this is the culmination of a years-long effort to create a rider for the production of the Grammys. But this is only the beginning. We are committed to putting in the real work required to help create a pipeline of diverse talent and drastically change representation.” Next, don’t forget to check out our photo gallery from the 2022 Grammys red carpet!
