When does the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon premiere?
The series arrives Sunday, August 21, 2022. HBO Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak in the states, Bloys spoke to Deadline about when the show would likely premiere, saying: “My guess is sometime in 2022.” At the time, he also revealed, “They are starting writing.” They made that official in April, when production began on the series and a photo of a table read was shared on Twitter. “The @HBO original series #HouseoftheDragon is officially in production. Coming soon to @HBOMax in 2022,” the caption read.
Is there a trailer for the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon premiere?
HBO Max released a teaser on Oct. 5, 2021, featuring the first official footage from the series. “Dreams didn’t make us kings. Dragons did,” a voice is heard in the teaser. A full trailer was released on July 20, 2022, showing the struggle for power between Matt Smith’s Daemon Targaryen and Emma D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra Targaryen. And of course, there are plenty of actual dragons, too!
Who is in the cast for the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon ?
Parade.com can confirm that The Outsider’s Paddy Considine has been cast as King Viserys Targaryen, who was chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. Described by HBO as a “warm, kind, and decent man,” Considine’s character “only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy. But good men do not necessarily make for great kings.” Emma D’Arcy plays Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Matt Smith plays Prince Daemon Targaryen. In another photo, we see Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower. And in a third photo, we see Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon. What is the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon about?
The new series will tell the story of the House Targaryen, of which the “Mother of Dragons” Daenerys, played by Emilia Clarke, was a member in GoT. The prequel will take place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. “Obviously it’s a big, complicated show,” Bloys told Deadline in early 2020.
Is the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon based on a book?
Yes! The prequel is based on George R.R. Martin’s 2018 book Fire & Blood. For those unfamiliar with the novel, it is the first volume of the definitive two-part history of the Targaryens in Westeros. “Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen—the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria—took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire and Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart,” a description for the book reads on Martin’s website.
Will George R.R. Martin be involved in the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon?
The author expects to be involved in the show “to some extent.” In a 2019 blog post, he wrote, “Who knows, if things work out, I may even be able to script a few episodes, as I did for the first four seasons of Game of Thrones.” Martin noted that he would not write any scripts until he completes Winds of Winter, the sixth installment of the Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Martin penned, “Let me make this perfectly clear… I am not taking on any scripts until I have finished and delivered Winds of Winter. Winter is still coming, and WINDS remains my priority, as much as I’d love to write an episode of House.”
