House of Gucci’s Jared Leto and the Halloween series’ Jamie Lee Curtis are reportedly joining the cast, as confirmed by Entertainment Weekly reporters who spoke to a source close to the project. Also set to star in the film are: Tiffany Haddish (Knives Out), Owen Wilson (Marley & Me, Masterminds), LaKeith Stanfield (Get Out and Knives Out), Danny DeVito (Matilda, Taxi, and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia), and Rosario Dawson (The Mandalorian, Daredevil, and Men In Black II). This is Disney’s second attempt at a live-action film that turns one of its most popular attractions into entertainment on the big screen. It comes almost 20 years after the release of Disney’s original live-action film Haunted Mansion (2003) which starred Eddie Murphy and flopped at the box offices. Here’s to hoping moviegoers’ appreciation for family-friendly comedy-horror films has only grown over the last two decades, as the new film doesn’t look to digress from its predecessor’s dueling genres. The official movie synopsis reads: “In this mysterious adventure, a doctor (Dawson) and her 9-year-old son (Dillon), looking to start a new life, move into a strangely affordable mansion in New Orleans, only to discover that the place is much more than they bargained for. Desperate for help, they contact a priest (Wilson), who, in turn, enlists the aid of a widowed scientist-turned failed-paranormal expert (Stanfield), a French Quarter psychic (Haddish) and a crotchety historian (DeVito).” The movie was written by Katie Dippold (Ghostbusters 2016, The Heat, and Spy) and directed by Justin Simien (Dear White People and Bad Hair). While producers Dan Lin (The Lego Movie, Aladdin 2019, It 2017), Jonathan Eirich (Aladdin 2019, Death Note), Nick Reynolds (Easter Sunday), and Tom Peitzman (The Lion King 2019) are set to bring the film to life in time for its March 10, 2023 release date.
