But internet users were mostly up in arms over the affectionate nickname Cher used in the caption, which read, “Happy New Year Daddy.” Haters inundated the tweet with disapproving messages in response, as many users making a point to ridicule the 40-year age gap between the couple. But Cher wasn’t going to let any negative comments get under her skin, as she tweeted the perfect response to one hater, writing, “It’s Never been My Go To, But I Didn’t Realize That This Term Of Endearment Comes With Consequences..God I Hope There’s No Mandatory Jail Time.” She then followed up with an additional witty reply, this time including another snap of the happy couple enjoying their night out on New Year’s Eve. “This should Send you Haters to The Part in Wizzard [sic] of OZ…WHEN DOROTHY THREW WATER ON THE wicked Witch & Melted her,” the superstar quipped. Many of her fans also chimed in to support the “I Got You Babe” songstress, including one user who wrote, “You go girl!” Another person added, “Screw the haters Cher. Live your Love!!!” while someone else simply called her handling of the situation, “Queen sh*t.” Though Cher only began publicly dating Edwards two months ago, the pair have already sparked engagement rumors after the Moonstruck actress posted a photo of a giant diamond ring to Twitter last week. She even sported the flashy piece of jewelry in the New Year’s photos, but she was wearing it on her middle finger, leaving it still unclear if the pair have plans to tie the knot. Either way, Cher and Edwards already seem to be starting 2023 off with a bang!
