The comedian spoke about the most recent gig at a stand-up set in Las Vegas’s Mirage Theater on April 2. According to Vanity Fair, during her time on stage, she revealed she cut several jokes for the telecast at the advice of her lawyer. She then went into a bit of the cut material, including references to podcast host Joe Rogan and sexual misconduct allegations against James Franco. But one particular barb was for Alec Baldwin. “Don’t Look Up is the name of a movie?” she joked. “More like don’t look down the barrel of Alec Baldwin’s shotgun.” The quip was in reference to a headline-making incident involving Baldwin back in October 2021. While filming the upcoming movie Rust in New Mexico, a prop gun that Baldwin was handling discharged. The shooting killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza. The tragedy prompted a lot of discourse in the film community about occupational safety on set, especially after rumors sparked about previously unsafe productions some of the crew of Rust had worked on. Schumer also made reference to the infamous “slap” that became the thing to talk about from Oscars night. The incident, in which Will Smith got up on stage and slapped presenter Chris Rock when he made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia condition, has bred a slew of opinions from people who were and weren’t in the room at the time. Schumer personally referred to the entire thing as a “bummer.” “All I can say is that it was really sad,” she said, “and I think it says so much about toxic masculinity. It was really upsetting, but I think the best way to comfort ourselves would be for me to say the Oscar jokes that I wasn’t allowed to say on TV.” Next, Read Will Smith’s Apology for Oscars Night Slap
