Chayce BeckhamSong: “Colder Weather” by the Zac Brown Band Katy Perry: “You were born on American Idol. I knew you when. Your guitar looks good on you.” Luke Bryan: “What you need to realize is you are here because you are real. Everything you give us feels real. Being genuine and authentic, people love that.” Lionel Richie: “You spent most of this competition going, “Really?’ They like you. They fell in love with your voice and who you are.” Casey Bishop Song: “Wish You Were Gay” by Billie Eilish Luke: “You just crushed every aspect of that whole thing. In my opinion, it was your best. It was the perfect song to choose.” Lionel: “You have been pushing it the whole time. You now own your persona. You killed it, my dear.” Katy: “You found your stardust and you’re rolling around in it. Whether you win American Idol or not, you are going to be your next hero.” Grace Kinstler Song: “A Moment Like This” by Kelly Clarkson Lionel: “You waited a lifetime for a moment like this. You have thought of yourself as trying to be something unique. You are your normal. It’s totally fresh. You are bringing in your sound, your confidence.” Katy: “That was a really cool song choice. I think you are a lot like Kelly Clarkson and she is a bona fide star.” Luke: “You conduct yourself with this confidence that is so amazing to watch. It’s like I said last week, you have the eye of the tiger. Your voice is vocal pyro.” Willie Spence Song: “Glory” by John LegendKaty: “I am so glad you took us to church. It was amazing, it was connected, it was spiritual. It’s in God’s hands now. I’m glad because I don’t want to choose.” Luke: “30 seconds doesn’t tell you what that did to my soul. You are literally going to save people’s lives with your voice. Then they are going to walk up to you one day and tell you that you saved them.” Lionel: “You have such a presence. You are uplifting.”
Round Two:
Chayce BeckhamSong: “23” by Chayce Beckham and “You Should Probably Leave” by Chris Stapleton Luke: “Amazing. I loved the way you worked some of the production on your original. You have your confidence.” Lionel: “Who have you turned into? From the beginning to now, it is a complete transformation. You have stepped into your light, so I know exactly who you are.” Katy: “Apple Valley boy, forklift boy, you are a star.” Casey Bishop Song: “Love Me, Leave Me” by Casey Bishop and “Live Wire” by Mötley Crüe Lionel: “What was that? Live wire! You can be so whimsical and then in the middle of this whole thing, you drop the bomb. I loved it.” Katy: “My favorite song right now is ‘Love Me, Leave Me.’ A great pick to contribute to a great first song off the bat. I can’t believe you can sing ‘Over the Rainbow’ a couple of episodes ago and then get down on your knees for ‘Live Wire.’ You check all the boxes.” Luke: “We are two miles from all the bars where the metal and hair bands used to play. Let’s take Casey and kick in the door.” Then Willie and Grace dueted on FINNEAS’ “What They’ll Say About Us.” And Luke performed his new single “Waves.” Grace Kinstler Song: “Love Someone” by Grace Kinstler and “Father” by Demi Lovato Luke: “Rendered speechless once again. I loved the way you did your melody on your original. Yet another great performance from you.” Lionel: “It is just the realization to us that all of our birds are about to leave the nest. It is very clear to all of us that you’ve taken all the instruction, but you came here as yourself. Artistry, check. Star power, check. Your future, check.” Katy: “What a great way to pick a great song for your first song. Way to represent as an artist. Hearing your story and everything you’ve been through, I felt you singing ‘Father.’ That was beautiful.” Willie Spence Song: “Never Be Alone” by Willie Spence and “I Was Here” by Beyonce. Lionel: “What have we done! I want to see his tour. As far as I am concerned, this is it. You are a giant of a voice and a giant of a presence, and you handle it so well.” Katy: “Every time I get chills. Great song. You have that connection to the next realm, and it’s been beautiful to see you come in and step into your power. You are walking in the light.” Luke: “You are a teddy bear, but when the lights come on, you turn into beast mode to show the world what you’re about.” The final performance of the night was Chayce and Casey on FINNEAS’ “Break My Heart Again.” American Idol airs Sunday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
