“What appealed to me was doing a 360 on a crime," showrunner Tony Ayres told Forbes about the inspiration behind the high-tension premise. “By telling the story in varying points of view, we were able to show different people’s perspectives on what a crime means. Some of the people were inside the crime at the core and others were secondary to the event but were still impacted by it.” He added, “This is more than a whodunit. This story turns from a who-did-it to a why-did-they-do-it by the end." In a July 2021 Instagram post, Grenier likewise emphasized the murder-mystery aspect of Clickbait when he wrote on Instagram, “This is a fun one. Who done it? I bet you won’t be able to figure it out.” Is the missing person guilty of his own crimes? Will there be an unbelievable twist at the end? And most importantly, when, where and how can you watch this can’t-stop-watching show? Here is everything you need to know about Netflix’s new limited-series thriller, Clickbait.

When does Clickbait premiere?

The series premieres Wednesday, Aug. 25 when all episodes drop on Netflix at 3:01 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT.

How to watch Clickbait

Tune in to all eight, hour-long episodes of Clickbait on Netflix starting Wednesday, Aug. 25.

What is Clickbait about?

The Netflix series is about Nick Brewer, a loving husband and father, who gets abducted. Following his mysterious disappearance, a battered Nick appears in a video holding a card that says he abuses women and will die if the video is viewed 5 million times. “Is this a threat or confession? Or both? As his sister (Zoe Kazan) and wife (Betty Gabriel) rush to find and save him, they uncover a side of Nick they didn’t know existed,” according to the show’s official synopsis. Clickbait is described as “a compelling, high stakes thriller that explores the ways in which our most dangerous and uncontrolled impulses are fueled in the age of social media, revealing the ever-widening fractures we find between our virtual and real-life personas.” Sharing a teaser on Instagram, Grenier wrote that his new show “twists and turns like the best a thriller has to offer.”

Who is in the Clickbait cast?

Clickbait stars Grenier as college volleyball coach Nick Brewer and Betty Gabriel—who you likely remember from Get Out as housekeeper Georgina—as his wife, Sophie Brewer. Zoe Kazan (i.e. Kumail Nanjiani’s comatose girlfriend in The Big Sick) plays Nick’s sister Pia, while Phoenix Raei portrays Roshan Amiri, a detective with the Oakland Police Department. The cast of the Netflix series also includes Jessica Collins, Abraham Lim, Daniel Henshall, Camaron Engels, Jaylin Fletcher, Ian Meadows, Becca Lish and Motell Foster.

Is there a Clickbait trailer?

Yep, and it poses the head-scratching question at the center of this series: Did Grenier’s character, Nick, lead a double life? The two-minute preview opens with Nick seemingly loving life as the dad in a tight, happy family, but after his kidnapping, both law enforcement and the media uncover reasons to doubt that idyllic existence as questions start to emerge: Was Nick violent? Did he have a secret past? Guess we’ll have to wait and see, but in the meantime, watch the official trailer below:

What happened to Adrian Grenier?

Perhaps the biggest mystery surrounding Clickbait: Why is this the first time we’ve seen Grenier in what feels like forever? Clickbait is definitely the 45-year-old’s most high-profile project since his Entourage days, and in May 2021, he told Austin Life Magazine that’s because he decided to buy a farm in Texas and take a big step back from Hollywood. “You work hard, you become famous, then you make a lot of money… but it was lackluster at the top,” he explained. “[It was] amazing while it lasted, [but] I found myself in a stage of my life where I had to change.” Next, Waiting for the return of The Crown?
