On June 4, Banes was crossing the street in Manhattan, near Juilliard, her alma mater, when she was mowed down by a scooter. According to police, the scooter rider rode through a red light as Banes was crossing the street near Lincoln Center. Banes suffered severe head trauma. So far, no one has been arrested and police are still investigating the accident.
