Plant Bae in Montgomery, AL We’re starting this round-up list strong with the well-known, Plant Bae. Plant Bae is credited with being the city’s only fully vegan restaurant since its opening in 2020. Although the menu is dairy and meat-free, there are so many fantastic meals to try. Plant Baegives back to their community by offering The Granny Baeby Program to help elders have access to healthy foods. This takes place on Saturdays, from 9:00 AM—11:00 AM.

Alaska

Roscoe’s Catfish & Barbeque in Anchorage, AK  If you’re looking for a good spot with a variety of tastes then Roscoe’s Catfish & Barbeque is for you! Ohana Sub in Wahiawa, HI Ohana Sub is the perfect location for you that serves freshly made deli sandwiches. Try the Fiji 808 with bologna, pepperoni, ham, turkey, and salami, or the Surfer Pepperoni, with bologna, salami, pepper jack cheese, mayo, dijon mustard, and papaya seed dressing. Mé Lon Togo in Rockland, ME One of my personal favorite spots is Mé Lon Togo in Maine. Chef-owner Jordan Benissan combines cuisines from both Togo and West African indigenous cuisines. There entrée Duck De Provence: “tender duck braised in a white wine sauce with Herbes de Provence, spices, and vegetables, served with sweet potato gnocchi” is a must-try. Mé Lon Togo does not only bring an incredible palate but a friendly atmosphere that makes you want to come back again and again. They’re open on Thursdays through Sundays from 5:00 PM until 11:00 PM.

Maryland

The Uncaged Chefs in District Heights, MD Heading to the DMV area? If so, then The Uncaged Chefs is the perfect place for you. Stop by from Tuesdays through Sundays 11:00 AM—8:00 PM. Their motto is “No Rules, Just Good Food” and they’re doing just that. Check out their Butter Pecan Fried Chicken Sandwich, you will be ordering another one to go! 

Massachusetts

ZaZ Restaurant in Hyde Park, MA While you’re near Boston, head to ZaZ Restaurant serving a wide variety of burgers, wraps and salads inspired by Caribbean, Latin, and Asian fusion flavors. Flip Village Combo is the go-to item to order that includes: “Mango Curry Chicken with Ginger Curry Chickpeas and Yam Stew over a bed of delicious Coconut Rice.”

Sammy Savenue Eatery in Minneapolis, MN Opening in 2012, Sammy Savenue Eatery has been serving up a great atmosphere and great food. Their Good Morning and Good Afternoon menu options will leave you wanting more. Check out their Sammy’s Tuna Club served with mixed greens, tomatoes, pickles, cucumbers, onions, mayo, and their signature House Sauce. Opened from Mondays through Fridays between 8:00 AM–5:00 PM and Saturdays between 9:00 AM–3:00 PM.  

Mississippi

Mind, Body, Soul Foodz  in Ridgeland, MS  This next restaurant name speaks for itself, Mind, Body, Soul Foodz in Mississippi values fueling your body and soul. Mind-Body, Soul Foodz offers weight loss meals, meal prep, smoothies, and power meals. They’re open from Wednesday to Sunday between 11:00 AM—5:00 PM. You should head there between 11:00 AM—2:00 PM to try their Blue Plate Special where you can choose your two sides, one protein, as well as cornbread, and a beverage. 

Missouri

Mattie’s Food in Kansas City, MO Mattie’s Food, a sister-owned restaurant serving up your favorite American dishes. Try their Brisket Sandwich with their Buffalo Mac and Cheese. Mattie’s Food motto is “comfort food made smart.” If you can’t make it to Kansas City, try out their Food Truck. They’re open Wednesdays and Saturdays between 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and Thursdays and Fridays between 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. 

Montana

Jook A Chicken Joint in Billings, MT  Their menu is short but each dish hits you with so many flavors inspired by African American soul food. While you’re there, you must try their Sassy & Sweet Fried Chicken Sandwich served with hot sauce, onions, and their signature sauce. They’re open from Thursdays to Saturdays between 3:00 PM–9:00 PM. 

Nebraska

Juju’s Vegan Cajun and Creole Cuisine in Lincoln, NE  Juju’s Vegan Cajun and Creole Cuisine offer a vegan twist on your favorite signature dishes. Try their signature dish Andouille Seitan Gumbo: “Traditional Gumbo with Andouille Seitan Sausage and Jasmine Rice.” Juju’s Vegan Cajun and Creole Cuisine bring the family together with their family menu, and kids menu. Their recipe has been passed down through the Grays Family for generations and is now sharing a piece of home with you. They offer many flavors and toppings for your personalized Banana Pudding. The Cheesecake and Pistachio puddings are a must! 

New Hampshire

GreenLeaf in Milford, NH  GreenLeaf brings locally sourced, and freshly made meals directly to you! GreenLeafs supports and gives back to local farmers by committing to purchase the majority of their supplies from them. Their Herb Crusted Cod, with almond, pancetta, seasonal vegetables is a must-try. They’re open on Wednesdays to Saturdays from 5:00 PM—9:00 PM.  

New Jersey

Bro-Ritos Food Truck in Hackensack, NJ Founded in 2016, Bro-Ritos has been serving up tasty specialty burritos throughout Hackensack, NJ. At the time they were founded it was the first specialty burrito food truck in New Jersey. Their most popular and signature dishes are the Suavemente Bro which is “a burrito with rice, beans, ground beef, maduros, cheese, sour cream and hot sauce” and their Skkrimp-Bro, a shrimp burrito. If you’re looking to bring a piece of Bro-Ritos home with you stop by and grab their ‘Bro-Ritos Taco Kit.’ These kits were curated to allow you to enjoy their signature sauces at home!

SweetWater Harvest Kitchen in Santa Fe, NM SweetWater Harvest Kitchen is proud to offer fresh and natural food to their community. Paint N’ Pour in New York, NY We’re heading to the East Coast (the best coast) with Paint N’ Pour. Paint N’ Pour is an interactive experience where you can enjoy their tasty menu and paint “your heart out” with your friends. Check out their French Toast served with mixed berries and their Electric Sliders. You will not be disappointed with the atmosphere and the divine menu options. 

North Carolina

The Nappy Chef  in Charlotte, North Carolina North Carolina is known for having talented chefs, The Nappy Chef furthers this notion. They have been serving great food that is made from fresh ingredients since 2014. Their Reggae Shrimp Taco served with coleslaw, jalapeno chilies, diced tomato, shredded cheddar & sriracha aioli is a must-try. 

North Dakota

French Taste in Grand Forks in Grand Forks, ND This next restaurant brings France to you! French Taste in Grand Forks has been dedicated to sharing signature French sweet treats with their community. You can never go wrong with a sweet or savory crepe. I would recommend trying their Smores crepe or their Smoked salmon, cheese, and sour cream crepe. Riziki Swahili Grill in Columbus, OH  Riziki Swahili Grill prides itself in serving authentic Swahili cuisine from the islands of Zanzibar. Riziki Swahili Grill has many wonderful options. This is a restaurant that you have to come to again and again until you’ve tried everything on the menu. Stop by on Sunday to try their signature dish the Sunday Funday (Urojo) with “Turmeric potato soup with toppings of sumbusa, bajia, mishkaki (skewers), and cassava chips.”
